America is one of the most obese nations in the world. You can hardly throw a stick anywhere without it landing on a fast-food restaurants. Most of us hardly take the time to count the amount of calories we take in daily, let alone the amount of calories we burn. Children are exceptionally well at mimicking their adult counterparts. Meaning, obese parents often have children who end up becoming obese as well. However, by making a few small changes in our diet, we can eliminate the amount of bad calories we take in, maximize the amount of nutrition we put into our bodies, we can start getting on the right track for eating well daily.


For some people, their breakfast may consist of pork sausages, chicken and waffles, fried eggs, etc. These meals are often packed with calories and fats, and is a poor way to start off your day. Consuming all of those unnecessary calories end up doing more harm than good in the process. As an alternative, one should look into incorporating fresh fruit into their meals such as oranges, bananas, strawberries, etc. Whole-grain cereals with skim or soy milk is a personal favorite. Eggs whites made with olive oil instead of vegetable oil is a much healthier alternative. There’s also oatmeal, yogurts, and even protein shakes. These are just a few ideas on how you can start eating well.

Eating Well For Lunch

Lunch doesn’t have to be all about fast food and diners. For some of us, our lunch can be comparable to the amount that we eat for dinner. Still, there are much healthier options at a fraction of a cost. A fresh salad with your favorite fruits or even some fish is packed with essential vitamins that can give you the energy you need to help take on the rest of the day without feeling weighed down with “empty” calories. Also, a whole-wheat wrap with turkey, lettuce, tomato and some light dressing is much healthier for you than any SubWay sandwich. A freshly made panini is also a valid choice as well for eating well.

Eating Well For Dinner

The last meal that we eat should be the healthiest. After dinner, physical activity is generally at a minimum and most of us are probably gonna kick back and relax a little bit, before calling it a night. While it is true that the body burns calories even while we sleep, it occurs at a much slower pace. Therefore, it would not be to our advantage to ingest large amounts of calories just before going to bed. Some healthier options for dinner include whole-wheat pasta with some shrimp and spinach tossed in can make for a very healthy and delicious dinner. Baked beans with rice is also a very healthy option as well. Even a serving of chicken soup can help give you the calories you need minus the excess fat and cholesterol.

Wallace Wang, best seller of My New Mac and My New iPhone for the No Starch Press publisher has written a new book detailing everything you need to know about the iPad in a book called “My New iPad: A User’s Guide.” No Starch Press provided a reviewer’s copy of “My New iPad: A User’s Guide” for this review.

“My New iPad: A User’s Guide” includes seven chapters including: basic training; customizing your iPad; getting on the Internet; sharing data with your iPad; video, music, and eBooks; organizing yourself and additional tips. Each chapter is small and comes in easily consumable chunks of information that can instantly help new users complete a certain task with easy to follow step by step instructions.

The first chapter called “Basic Training” teaches you how to turn on and off the iPad, what the various buttons and slides perform and how to use and customize the virtual keyboard. Apple changed the Screen Location Lock since the book was published so information has changed since the publish date resulting in incorrect information.

“Customizing Your iPad” is the second chapter that details how to customize your home screen, set the date and time, restoring and resetting your iPad and installing and uninstalling iPad apps.

The third chapter called “Getting on the Internet” shows how to use the email client and web browser called Safari including some intermediate information such as how to use bookmarks and automatically fill out forms with Safari.

If you do not know how to transfer content to your iPad, chapter four is perfect for you. “Sharing Data with Your iPad” shows how to synchronize with iTunes to transfer media such as photos, movies, TV shows and even podcasts. The chapter further goes on to show steps to synch your eBooks, Audio Books, Contacts, Appointments, Mail, Notes, Bookmarks and even iTunes University Courses. The book is light on how to actually configure Yahoo! or Google services with your iPad however.

The next chapter focuses on content consumption on the iPad and it titled “Video, Music and eBooks”. This chapter shows you how to watch your photos to listen to your music to watching YouTube videos.

Chapter six focuses on how to use the iPad to keep yourself organized using included iPad apps and is called “Organizing Yourself.”

Finally, the last chapter called “Additional Tips” provides some additional miscellaneous tips including how to update the iOS or use foreign languages. This last chapter also includes a section called “Best iPad Apps” which includes some good apps but is dated. I started and finished “My New iPad: A User’s Guide” in one afternoon. The book is geared towards new users of not only the iPad device but of Apple’s iOS devices including iPod Touch and iPhones and definitely not towards advanced user’s of the iOS. For example, this book would be ideal for my parents since they have never used an iOS device, but I found the book way to simplistic to really become engaged.

Much of the fear that comes from Job Interviews is rooted in the feeling of being on trial or judged by the people, or panel, that is conducting the interview however it should always be remembered that a job interview is a two-way process.

There are a few key points that you may want to consider, aside from the pay scale.

What does the company social life look like?

Some companies put on extra events, socials, barbecues and sporting events for their employees. Sometimes this is based around membership of a social club, sometimes it comes mandated from head office.

Other companies have a working tradition of leaving work at work, clocking out at half five and not even thinking about work or your colleagues until you clock back in the following morning. These are entirely contradictory working cultures and it is important to work out which you would prefer.

What about overtime?

This is another factor that varies wildly between companies and between potential employees. You may want to work your 40 hour week and that’s it or you may be willing to work as many hours as they will pay you to work. Find out what is expected from you and what you would want to be offered from them.

Is there Room for Progression?

Would you be happy working this job for the rest of your career? If not then it is worth inquiring about the opportunities for internal progression that the company can offer you. If there’s a clear path to your career goal then this is a bonus but don’t forget to ask about some alternative routes such as internal or external training and qualifications. The company may be willing to support you or even pay for extra qualifications if it leads to them having a more productive employee and it certainly won’t hurt your chances of future promotion, either within the company or with another employer.

None of these factors should be a deal breaker, just as no one factor should decide which candidate they hire. Try to approach these subjects throughout the course of the interview rather than saving them for the inevitable section at the end. Having these interspersed throughout will turn the experience into more of a conversation and dialogue.

This has several advantages. It will make you feel more comfortable if you having a conversation rather than just responding to a series of questions. Being more comfortable and relaxed results in being more confident and always gives a positive impression to the interviewer.

It also gives the impression of being more proactive, rather than just reacting to the questions the interviewer can see that you are actively involved in the process and seeking information.

Perhaps most importantly, it can help you decide if it is actually somewhere that you wish to work.

Stages of Play


Children go through different stages of play as they grow and develop. Very young infants only have the ability to attend to one object at a time. Once an object is out of their sight, it is quickly forgotten. Infants play by themselves because they are so busy exploring and discovering their new world. Every new object or situation that is introduced is a new learning experience for the newborn. This very first stage of play is called “Solitary Play” or independent play. They are also more willing to share their toys for the sake of the game. Communication about the play is the critical point of cooperative play.

It is important to note that children differ widely according to birth order within their own families. Boys and girls develop in different areas at different stages of their life, so there is never complete adherence to any of these exact ages. Not all children move through the stages at the same rate, because children who have more life experiences tend to emerge as leaders or organizers at younger ages. Confidence, shyness, and other personality traits factor into these stages of play.
