Tony Robbins – The Power of Questions

[ad_1]

“Questions provide the key to unlocking our unlimited potential,” says Robbins. “Quality questions create a quality life. Successful people ask better questions, and as a result, they get better answers.”

It is in being honest with yourself and having an open internal dialogue that you will place yourself on the path to success. “You and I have that same power at our disposal every moment of the day,” says Robbins. “At the moment, the questions that we ask ourselves can shape our perception of who we are, what we’re capable of, and what we’re willing to do to achieve our dreams.”

How do you really want to live?

What gets you most excited?

When do you feel stuck?

What kind of person will you have to become in order to achieve all that you want?

These are some of the questions Robbins suggests you ask yourself and answer honestly. “The genuine quality of life comes from consistent, quality questions,” says Robbins. If you ask yourself a great question, your mind will automatically focus on finding better answers and solutions. Conversely, “If you ask a terrible question, you’ll get a terrible answer,” he says. “Your mental computer is ever ready to serve you, and whatever question you give it, it will surely come up with an answer.”

Throughout his career, Robbins has been driven by a single question – what makes the difference in the quality of people’s lives? He has since come to realize that it is what we ask of ourselves and how well we look inside to find the answers that plays a key role. Not only does this help us understand our own internal motivations, but it also helps provide focus to our thoughts.

Every night before going to sleep, Robbins suggests asking yourself the following three questions:

What have I learned today?

What have I enjoyed today?

What have I improved or contributed today?

Simple questions, yet with powerful effects. “Most people never feel secure because they are always worried that they will lose their job, lose the money they already have, lose their spouse, lose their health, and so on,” says Robbins. “The only true security in life comes from knowing that every single day you are improving yourself in some way, that you are increasing the caliber of who you are and that you are valuable to your company, your friends, and your family.” In asking yourself the above three questions, you can work on improving yourself each and every day.

Every individual has the right to live a life of fulfillment and questions are the key to opening that door.

“The power was given to you at the moment you were born,” says Robbins. “Its source is unlimited. And when you seize it, you’ll have everything you need to create a life filled with more passion, excitement, confidence, and joy than you’ve ever dreamed. Isn’t it time to unleash the power within and claim your extraordinary potential?”

This fast paced 7 minute video will enlighten you on the Power of asking yourself the right questions. Putting this simple but extremely powerful concept to work in your own life will change your life in ways you never thought possible.

This short video below has some examples of what we ask ourselves and by simply changing the question you are instantly empowered.

The Power Of Questions Questions are an excellent way to access your subconscious mind, and the process is a simple one.

Suppose you are in a situation where you want to make a good impression. You walk up to the person you want to impress and blurt out a tactless remark. Instantly you realize what you’ve done.

If you ask yourself a negative question like, “Why am I always such an idiot?” your brain will come up with all sorts of reasons in order to answer that question. This is of absolutely no help to you, either in the present situation or at any time in your life.

If instead you ask yourself, “How can I recover from this mess?” your brain will sort through your memory banks to come up with some strategies to redeem your blunder.

In other words, your brain will always present an answer to any question you ask yourself. The answer may not necessarily be true, but your brain feels obligated to respond to your questions and will do its best to present you with some kind of answer, whether feasible or not.

How can you use this brain function to improve your life?

Train yourself to ask only positive questions.

Questions like “Why am I so talented?” and “How did I get to be so lucky?” will give you far more positive results than those that presuppose a critical answer. Often the brain recognizes that many of these questions are rhetorical, in other words they don’t actually require an answer, but the impact is still positive. The questions imply that you are talented or you are lucky, thereby reinforcing the notion. In this sense they function the same way as affirmations.

WHY Questions

Asking, “Why do I always fail?” will inevitably lead to answers like “Because you’re a loser!”

“How can I succeed in this venture?” will lead to creative and useful answers.

Why questions are often circular in nature and are not utilized in this particular process. Replace them with questions like *How can I do this? *What do I need to do next? *When do I need to finish this? *Where do I need to be right now? *What do I need to learn here?

Daily Questions

Anthony Robbins popularized the use of questions in his excellent tape programs, Personal Power and Personal Power II. Tony devised three sets of questions: one for mornings, one for night, and another set to use when dealing with problems throughout the day.

1. The Morning Questions

Answer the following questions every morning to set yourself up for a positive day.

1.What am I most happy about in my life right now? What about that makes me happy? How does that make me feel? (Repeat these two secondary questions after each main question)

2.What am I most excited about in my life right now?

3.What am I most proud of in my life right now?

4.What am I most grateful for in my life right now?

5.What am I enjoying most in my life right now?

6.What am I most committed to in my life right now?

7.Who do I love? Who loves me?

2. The Evening Questions

Ask yourself these questions at the end of each day before sleep.

1.What have I given today?

2.What did I learn today?

3.How has today added to my life?

4.How can I use today as an investment in my future?

5.What did I do today towards reaching my goals?

6.Optional: Add the morning questions.

3. The Problem Solving Questions

These questions are helpful when working towards a goal and/or encountering an obstacle.

1.What do I need to do today towards reaching my goals?

2.How can I become successful and enjoy the process?

3.What can I learn from this experience?

4.What do I respect about this person?

5.What’s actually funny about this situation that I haven’t noticed before?

6.What’s great in my life right now?

7.How can I make this happen right now and enjoy the process?

The three sets of questions can be printed in a large font on separate sheets of paper and displayed in your work space.

This valuable lesson comes from notes taken while spending 2 weeks in Kona Hawaii At one of Tony’s seminars,

So I want to give thanks to Tony Robbins

Corporation Inc Walkthrough

[ad_1]

Simulation games have actually been around for quite some time, you may be familiar with console games such as the Sims. Sims started off really popular, the ideas was that you role play as people, find jobs, learn new skills, meet people and try to live life. Something big just hit the online game industry and that is Corporation Inc. Corporation Incorporated is an all new online game from John, a very well made game I might add, it has quickly jumped up to the best game of 2010, following that would be Warlords 2: Rise of Demons.

In this online RPG game you simply run your own push button factory, the goal is to run a successful business that earns a steady income, you’ll have to hire and fire workers depending on their happiness level, and whether or not they slack off or do their job(s). There have been a few minor bugs with the game but overall they have been fixed or are still in the process of being fixed, the game itself is very unique, something much different from the usual online games I play.

The game starts out with 3 modes, easy, medium and hard. Each mode has a different amount of starting cash, I have managed to play it both on medium and hard, if you do choose the hard option you cash will probably cut pretty close to low earnings, just make sure you don’t purchase to many offices or decor.I have read a few great Corporation Inc Walkthroughs here and there explaining useful gameplay hints on how to complete each objective. The game has 32 objectives, some of them are rather time consuming, so make sure you just keep earning a fair amount of money before you attempt to make any serious purchases.

Analysis: Overall this game is by far the best online game I have played to date, without a doubt. If you are into casual games or in this case simulation games, you should definitely add this game to your playlist. If you run into any bugs just let John know, he is constantly doing his best to improve and make the gameplay better for everyone out there in the online gaming community. Good luck, and as always have fun!

Top Ten Coolest Security Guard Movies

[ad_1]

For as long as we can remember, films that feature bumbling, hapless or larger-than-life security guards, or protective dynamic duos, have been a fun, important part of cinematic history. Here is a list of classic bodyguard movies, or movies with super-strength security stars that we simply can’t forget.

1. Armed and Dangerous: John Candy and Eugene Levy team up and make cinematic history in this brilliant buddy comedy; the bumbling duo play a recently fired cop and amoral lawyer who suit up as security guards, only to find that they’ve unwittingly become members of a corrupt company.

2. The Bodyguard: Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston sizzle on the big screen as a former Secret Service agent acting as bodyguard to a mainstream pop singer. The film’s epic soundtrack continues to be one of the best-selling albums of all time.

3. National Security: Martin Lawrence and Steve Zahn as Earl and Hank, respectively; two guards from different walks of life that have one thing in common: the security company they work for. Their history of hating each other stems from Earl’s key role in Hank’s dismissal from the police force. This odd couple doesn’t disappoint in the laughs department.

4. Observe & Report: This dark comedy features Seth Rogen as Ronnie Barnhardt, a depressed, on-the-brink guard who is head of the security department at Forest Ridge Mall. When he fails to get into the police force and is belittled by the officer taking over his operations, he embarks on a dual mission of madness: to prove himself and catch the elusive mall flasher, Ronnie’s arch enemy and ultimate target.

5. In the Line of Fire: Clint Eastwood as Frank Horrigan, a Secret Service agent to the President. Frank famously dropped the ball when it came to saving President Kennedy, but did put himself on the front lines to take out a crafty assassin who is targeting his current client.

6. Paul Blart:Mall Cop: Kevin James holds it down as Paul Blart, who dreams of being an officer for the New Jersey State Police. However, his ample size doesn’t help his chances of being a powerhouse cop, so he has to make do with being a security guard at his local mall. Heartwarming and hilarious, this is a great film for the whole family.

7. The Pacifier: Vin Diesel as tough guy Shane Wolfe, a disgraced US Navy SEAL assigned to work as a bodyguard protecting five rebellious kids. He may soon be the one needing protecting, as he learns the hard way that nannying is no joke.

8. Night at The Museum: Larry Daley is a night guard at New York’s American Museum of Natural History in. Upon beginning his shift, he’s instructed not to let anything “in or out.” He soon comes to realize the significance of this creepy warning: The Museum comes to life at night, kicking off a bone-tingling phenomenon that delighted movie-goers of all ages.

9. Guarding Tess: Nicholas Cage as Doug Chesnic, a Secret Service agent protecting Jessica Tandy’s Tess Carlisle, the widow of a former US President. Though he holds great pride in his prestigious job, the fiesty First Lady tests his limits by treating him like a lowly servant. Have your hankie ready for this endearing tear-jerker.

10. Terminator 2: Judgment Day: Arnold Schwarzenegger returns as the ultimate larger-than-life robo-guard, a well-muscled force from the future on a mission to protect teenager John Connor. Nothing says big-screen fun like another deadly Terminator!

Choosing Which Windbreaker Fabric Is Best For You

[ad_1]

Back in the 90’s, most windbreakers were made of nylon material. These days, however, there are many different types of fabrics to choose from when purchasing a windbreaker or warm up suit. Depending on various factors, picking the right windbreaker fabric can be a very important decision, especially if you are going to have your windbreaker personalized. The different common windbreaker fabric types are nylon, micro polyester, polyester, and tricot.

Nylon is the old classic material which is very water and wind resistant. It also has a harder shell and makes a “swishy” noise when you walk in it. Now, while nylon became popular due to its great water and wind resistance, the noise it creates when people walk in it has drawn many consumers to choose other fabric types that are quieter.

Micro polyester is a softer, quieter fabric. It does not make that “swishy” noise when you walk around in it. It’s a lightweight, soft fabric, and windbreakers that are made out of it generally come with either a cotton or mesh lining. Micro polyester is also does a great job at being wind and water resistant, and is ideal for people that live in hotter geographical areas due to their light weight.

Polyester is similar to micro polyester in that it is a quieter fabric than nylon, but it is slightly heavier in weight. These warm ups also generally come with either a cotton or mesh lining, the cotton lining being the warmer of the two. This fabric is one that could be worn in most all weather types, being that it has a little bit of weight to it, and you can choose between different linings to determine how warm you want them to keep you.

Tricot is a heavyweight, brushed polyester material. It is very soft to the touch and even has a little bit of a shine to it. Being that it is the heaviest of the fabrics, warm ups that are made of tricot generally do not have lining included with them. These windbreakers are not very water resistant and tend to be less wind resistant than the other materials. These windbreakers would be best suited for those in colder climates, given the heavy weight of the material. They are very comfortable though because of their softness.

So, depending on certain factors, one warm up fabric will most likely be more suitable than another. With this information, it should make it much easier to determine which windbreaker fabric is right for you.

An Honest, Critical Review of the Dani Johnson Scam

[ad_1]

Who is Dani Johnson?

Dani Johnson began her career in the Network Marketing industry as a broke, homeless cocktail waitress with $2.03 to her name. Within her first several hours of starting her new business, she had made several thousand dollars of profit. She made more than $250,000 her first year, and more than $1,000,000 her second year, becoming the #1 international producer in her company.

Since that time, she has founded Call To Freedom International, and travels around the world teaching whoever will listen (or, whoever can afford to listen, as we shall see) her principles of success.

Can She Help Me Succeed?

That depends. You’ve probably visited Dani’s site and seen the impressive array of testimonials from people of all walks of life. Her website boasts well more than 10,000 unique testimonials from people of all over the world. Pretty impressive, to say the least.

My personal experience with Dani Johnson is not that inspiring.

I first ran into Dani’s teaching when I was living in Fairbanks, Alaska. At the time, I was for the first time in my life making a significant income from my company, around $4,000 a month only working about 2 hours a day. My organization was growing by 30-40% a month and I was really enjoying the process.

I came across Dani’s teachings and really believed it would take me to the next level of success, and help my team to experience the success they had been looking for. I bought every single training on her website (quite the pretty penny, but worth the investment, or so I thought)…

I gathered my whole team together and we had a huge house jam-packed full of people listening to ‘Prospect and Close Your Way To Millions’. ALL of them got fired up. (Dani can be pretty darned convincing). I personally invested 3-4 hours a day listening to Dani’s training, thinking I had finally found the ‘Golden Key’.

So What Were The Results?

My income immediately dropped by $1000, that very month, and recruiting almost completely stopped. The funny thing was, nothing in the company had changed and we were more excited than ever. So what did we do?

Instead of dropping Dani Johnson like a bad habit (like we should have), we heard Dani say that we needed to go to a seminar, so a bunch of us flew down from Alaska to L.A. and attended her well known ‘First Steps to Success.’ I personally spent more than $1500 between airfare, lodging, and the outrageously priced tickets, and between my group I think the price we paid was around $15,000.

That month, my income dropped by another $1000. Convinced that I needed to invest in my skills, I went to Dani’s ‘Creating a Dynasty’ and bought her ‘Prospecting and Closing’ classes, spending well over $2500 two months later.

What happened? My income went from $2000 to less than $1000, and from then went down to around $400 before I did what I should have done, and that’s drop Dani’s teachings like a bad habit and do what is proven to work!

So is Dani Johnson a Scam, or what?

Although there are many people who claim to benefit from her teachings, I certainly was not one of them. I invested 1000’s of hours of listening, called more than 5000 leads, and spent more than $5000 of hard earned cash flying all over the USA and buying trainings that completely destroyed my business. When I called and asked for a refund, (politely), they declined. I certainly feel I was scammed.

However, the good news is, when I learned about ‘Attraction Marketing’, my business started exploding faster than it ever had in the past, and now I am recruiting more people than I can handle, or could ever imagine…

Conclusion

If you are thinking of investing serious money in Dani Johnson’s material, just remember that when you sponsor a distributor, you have a responsibility to help them be successful as fast as possible, and that most of them are not expecting, (nor do they want), to fly all over the country paying their child’s college savings to go learn something that only works for sales superheroes. Any good, legitimate MLM organization should provide this training to their people, free of charge, with the understanding that if you benefit, they benefit.

That’s how this business is supposed to be, people helping people, building each other’s dreams through service, leadership, mutual prosperity and integrity.

If you want to spend $25,000 a year on training, learn from Dani Johnson. If you want to live a life of prosperity, learn Attraction Marketing. You decide.

Aloha,

and God Bless.

How to Cure Genital Herpes Blisters

[ad_1]

Blisters are the most obvious symptoms of genital herpes, a type of sexually-transmitted disease caused by the herpes simplex virus. Genital herpes blisters are generally painful and filled with liquid. When the blisters break open, they can cause the patient more pain. They appear on the on and around the genital area and the rectum. Once a person gets infected, it will stay in the body’s system forever. The person will experience outbreaks from time and time and can be subdued by taking medication.

To cure genital herpes blisters, it is best to consult the doctor about it. He will be the one to determine if you do have herpes or not. After some tests, the doctor will prescribe the right medication. These medications will help soothe the pain of the blisters and alleviate the other symptoms that you may have. Aside from blisters, infected persons also experience fever, nausea and muscle pain. Women will experience painful vaginal discharges. The most common medications prescribed by doctors are acyclovir, famciclovir and valacyclovir.

Aside from medications, there are natural remedies that can help cure genital herpes blisters.

-Avoid taking drugs that can depress the immune system. These include nicotine and caffeine. Stay away from alcohol because it can greatly reduce the body’s oxygen and nutrients.

-Avoid too much sun exposure. Patients are allowed 20 minutes of exposure to early sunlight, but nothing more than that. The skin needs the vitamin D that comes from morning sunlight, but too much exposure can irritate the skin and can cause further damage to healing process.

-Take a bath in warm water at least twice a day. Use clean water and make sure to use unscented bath products. It’s best to use natural herbal soaps which can help make the blisters heal faster.

-Tea tree oil helps fight off infections and makes the skin heal faster. Apply 4 to 5 drops of tea tree oil to sores before bedtime.

-Eat foods rich in lysine, an important amino acid that can provide collagen to the body. This will help the skin stay healthy even during a herpes outbreak. Foods rich in lysine include eggs, tofu, soybeans and lean organic beef.

-Drinks lots of carrot juice. Carrot juice will help the body tremendously in alkalizing the body during outbreaks. It detoxes the body and gets rids of toxins that make the sores worse.

-Wear loose and comfortable clothing to help the skin breathe and stay fresh. Blisters need to be aired for it to dry faster. Wearing tight clothing will only trap sweat and bacteria which can make the blisters worse.

Persons infected with genital herpes blisters are advised to refrain from any sexual activity during an outbreak, when sores and lesions are very much visible. There is a very high risk that they will pass on the virus to their partners. Using condoms does not guarantee safe protection; condoms cannot cover all areas with blisters. Pregnant women who have symptoms of herpes should inform the doctor immediately, for she can transmit the virus to her unborn child. To prevent catching the virus in the first place, always practice safe sex.

5 Reasons to Schedule DFW On Site Drug Testing

[ad_1]

Scheduling DFW on site drug testing may seem like a lot of work to go through. However, it has a variety of benefits. Knowing why you should schedule this will make it easier for you to spend the money and enjoy the convenience.

Not Everyone has Reliable Transportation

You want to make sure you eliminate as many excuses as possible as to why someone couldn’t conduct their test on time. Unfortunately, not everyone has reliable transportation and therefore it may be too much for you to ask for people to go to a lab. The moment you ask people to do things on their own time, you will start to see diminished participation.

The better solution is to offer on-site drug testing where people are already on premises. You can simply send them in to be drug tested when they have been randomly selected.

Ensure Full Compliance

You need to be sure you are in full compliance with all rules and regulations. Particularly with the DOT, on-site drug testing is preferred simply because it rules out various issues. You can have an MRO conducting the tests and maintaining full confidentiality with the records. It also means that the tests pass through fewer hands, which makes it easier for you to track the tests throughout the entire process.

Eliminate Tampering

You know who your employees are, and therefore you don’t have to worry about any kind of tampering. If they are on your premises, you know that they are where they are supposed to be. If you don’t offer on-site testing, you can never be too sure whether it’s your employees going in for the drug test or if they have someone else do it for them. Additionally, you don’t know how legitimate the drug testing site may be – and you need to eliminate any potential tampering issues.

Appear More Professional

You are going to appear more professional when your drug testing is on-site. It keeps your employees happier because they don’t have to go anywhere besides your facility. They also don’t have to do anything on their own personal time.

When the drug testing is conducted on-site, you also get to stay more organized in terms of the results and all of the employee records.

Faster Results

On-site testing is also known to be much faster than if you were to use a third-party lab. Faster results are of the utmost importance because you don’t want to keep your candidates waiting nor do you want to run the risk of employees being out on the roads when they have tested positive for drug use.

There are plenty of reasons why you should be scheduling DFW on-site drug testing. It doesn’t have to be any more complicated than you make it out to be. You will be able to save time, money, and be more professional when you have the tests conducted on-site. Additionally, you stay compliant and get faster results.

Type 2 Diabetes – Does Having Gestational Diabetes Raise the Risk of Developing Breast Cancer?

[ad_1]

Like Type 2 diabetes, Gestational diabetes or pregnancy-induced diabetes raises the risk of developing breast cancer, especially one type. That is what researchers at the National Institutes of Health in North Carolina, United States, concluded in their article published in February 2017 in the British Journal of Cancer.

Their study included 50,884 women from 35 to 74 years of age. They were followed from 2003 to 2009. Women with a history of Gestational diabetes were 73 percent more likely to have a type of cancer of the breast called estrogen-negative (ER-) than women without a history of diabetes during their pregnancy. Participants who had experienced two or more cases of Gestational diabetes had an 81 percent higher risk of developing any of the types of breast cancer than those who had not had the condition. The investigators suggest women who have had Gestational diabetes, and especially those with more than one case, should be concerned about the risk even more than women without a history of Gestational diabetes.

According to the Mayo Clinic in the United States, there are several other good ways to prevent developing cancer of the breast. By…

  • limiting the intake of alcohol,
  • avoiding smoking,
  • keeping your body weight within a healthy range,
  • taking part in a regular physical activity,
  • breastfeeding,
  • avoiding radiation and pollution, and
  • taking the smallest amount as possible of hormone therapy.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, United States, recommends not more than one alcoholic drink per day for women. One drink a day is not an average number but a moderate amount for each day.

Tobacco smoke contains three chemicals linked with cancer. According to the Breast Cancer Fund, both active and passive smoking have been linked to this form of cancer.

According to the National Institutes of Health in the United States, physical activity can help reduce the risk. This is especially true after menopause.

In societies in which women traditionally breastfeed with only one breast; the breast not used to feed the infant has a higher risk of developing cancer. Women who breastfeed for at least one year reduce their risk and those who breastfeed two years or more have an even lower risk of the developing breast cancer.

Radiation can cause changes, or mutations, in the DNA. Damaged DNA can lead to damaged cells and cancer. Some scientists think traffic air pollution raises the risk of breast cancer.

Estrogen, a female hormone used to treat menopause, can encourage the growth of some types of breast cancer.

The Healing Power Of True Forgiveness

[ad_1]

True forgiveness is a promise not a feeling. When we forgive other people truly, we are making a promise not to use their past misdeed against them. True forgiveness is a kind of gratitude. When we forgive others we show them the mercy that we have often received and have been thankful for.

True forgiveness is an act of love. It is most healing, most profound when it grows out of humility and realism. It is a challenging act, that whether someone else is entirely to blame in a situation, and we are blameless; there is still in each one of us insufficiencies and imperfections that can be our greatest teacher.

We may not recognise true forgiveness even when we have experienced it. Yet we feel it in our body that something has left us and we are no longer carrying the load that we used to. We tend to feel sorrow instead of rage over the circumstance, and we start feeling sorry for the person who has wronged us rather than being angry with them.

The muscular tensions that we had come to assume were normal get eased. We become less vulnerable to infection or to far more serious illness. Our immune system lifts, our face muscles let down. Food tastes better, and the world looks brighter. Depression radically diminishes. We become more available to others and to ourselves.

True forgiveness doesn’t lead to forced reunions, as there may be some people whom we are better never to see, to hear from, or even think about for more than a few moments at any time. But it help us to let people go from our thoughts, to release them from any wish that could harm them, and to bring us cleansing freedom.

We may be able to discover true forgiveness in a moment, but more often it takes weeks, months or sometimes years. It is something that we have to open to it, to invite it in, and it rarely goes one way only. As we may need to learn how to forgive ourselves before we can offer our true forgiveness, face to face, or silently to others. “The most important lesson on the road to spiritual maturity is how to truly forgive.” • Lisa Prosen

To search our way towards true forgiveness, we may need to bypass our rational mind. As it deeply offends the rational mind to forgive truly someone who has hurt us, abused us, wounded us; to forgive completely someone who has taken away the life of someone we love or has simply offended us or misunderstood us. There is no easy way to talk of bypassing it, and there is certainly no easy way to put true forgiveness into practice.

As challenging as it is, true forgiveness is the supreme virtue, the highest point of love, as it proclaims: I will try to go on loving the life in you, the divine in you, or the soul in you. Even though I totally despise what you have done or what you stand for. What is more: I will strive to see you as my equal, and your life as having equal value to my own, although I abhor what you do and everything you stand for.

Because true forgiveness is, in its raw forms, a virtue that is disturbing and confronting as it is healing and uplifting. It is important to be clear that there is no confusion between forgiving and accepting. Extending our true forgiveness doesn’t mean that we justify the actions that caused us harm nor does that mean that we have to seek out those who have harmed us. True forgiveness is simply a movement to release and ease our heart of the pain and hatred that binds it. “Forgiveness is not letting the offender off the hook. We can and should still hold others accountable for their actions or lack of actions.”

The need for true forgiveness starts with an act of betrayal, cruelty, separation or loss. Sometimes what is lost is trust. Sometimes it is a feeling of certainty about ourselves; about who we are, how we are seen, and what we stand for. The suffering that precedes the need for true forgiveness is never welcomed. It may well be the debris in our lives that we will finally and painfully turn into the gold of awareness. But we often dragged towards this knowledge only with great reluctance.

Hurt and suffering pushes us to expand our emotional arsenal, even as it pulls away the security of what is familiar. Forcing us to consider what our values are, and how they can support us; what strengths we dare own up to; and what strengths we need promptly to acquire. All of this is too invigorating to be in any way comforting. Yet as Young Eisendrath has said: “When suffering leads to meanings, that unlock the mysteries of life, it strengthens compassion, gratitude, joy, and wisdom.”

We sometimes use the word forgiveness when we are more correctly excusing ourselves for something we have done or have failed to do. Excusing doesn’t mean accepting what has been done or not done. It simply means that someone regrets what they have done; probably wishing that events could have been different; or that someone is at least optimistic that it won’t happen again; and the matter can be dropped.

True forgiveness is a different matter. It appears to enlighten another realm of experience altogether; a place that is grimmer, more depressing, more shadowy, much more confusing; a place where there is at least some element of fear, cruelty, betrayal or breaking of trust.

To extend our true forgiveness may be an act of supreme love and gentleness, but it is also tough. It demands that at least on party faces the truth, and learn something of value from it. It doesn’t involve accepting, minimising, excusing, ignoring, or pretending to forget what has been done. “Hate is not conquered by hate. Hate is conquered by love“.

Even under most dire circumstances, long before any version of true forgiveness become possible, impersonal love; the love that makes no distinction between us and all other living creatures; demands that we give up notions of vengeance. This may not mean ceasing to be angry, if angry is what you feel. True forgiveness certainly doesn’t mean pretending that things are fine when they are not. Nor does it mean refusing to take whatever actions is needed to amend past wrongs, or protect you in the future.

We often talk about true forgiveness in a way that suggests we giving something away when we forgive. Or that we accepting something in return when others forgive us. This is false. Offering true forgiveness or allowing true forgiveness to come to existence in whatever form within us, takes nothing away from us. It restores us to something that is always within us but from which we have become unbound: a sense of unity expressed through the qualities of trust, faith, hope and love.

The one who forgives never brings up the past to that person’s face. When you forgive, it’s like it never happened. True forgiveness is complete and total. • Louis Zamperini
